Evening Falls On General Williams

Evening Falls On General Williams, watercolor, 8x10" available

My favorite statue at Belle Isle, Detroit, MI is of Major Gen. Alpheus Starkey Williams as he sits atop his horse, checking a map as his steed bows his head.

Williams, a Detroiter, was a congressman, a judge, a lawyer, a postmaster, a newspaper publisher and a failed gubernatorial candidate, and was appointed a Brigadier General for the Union Army in the Civil War.

  1. I like this one a lot. The colors define it as a statue, but it could easily be a real person. I also love the boldness and values of the statue, well done.

  2. I like the blue purple color on this one. It says statue. The one I painted seems to have a gray brown color patina if I read the photo right. This is a great watercolor.

    1. Thanks, Carlene...General Corse Statue does appear to be the color you depicted, but yours looks more polished and pretty!
